St. George’s Church, striking with its beauty and divine grandeur, in the city of Krasnodar is located on the street. Grey. St. George’s Church has its own unique rich history, originating in the distant 891 year.
According to legend, the ancient Greeks sailing to the shores of the Crimea were caught in a severe storm. After long prayers addressed to the Great Martyr George the Victorious, the storm suddenly stopped and the sailors were saved. In gratitude, the Greeks founded the Balaklava Monastery of St. George near the place of their salvation.
The monastery had to endure a lot from earthquakes and looting of nomads to being held captive during the Crimean company.
In the city of Ekaterinodar, a branch of the Balaklava Monastery was founded in 1793, at that time it consisted of a small prayer house and a courtyard. Over time, in the middle of the XIX century, a temple was built, under the leadership of the Tauride Diocese. The year of construction is 1895. History has not preserved who was the architect of the divine structure.
The temple is built in the Byzantine style, its central part is crowned by five domes. The facade is made of original facing multi-colored bricks produced by local artisans.
Like most similar buildings, the temple could not withstand the tests of the post-revolutionary era. Part of the territory was taken by the Soviet government, but by the will of God the church constantly functioned.
