Stone at the base of the Ekaterinodar fortress
Russia, Krasnodar, St. Short, Plaza Labora
Description:
In the city of Krasnodar, on the street Short there is a small square with a memorial stone. At the place where it is installed, in the XVIII century was located Ekaterinodar fortress. The date 1793 is engraved on the stone.
For the first time in historical references the Ekaterinodar fortress was mentioned in 1793. Then the Cossack ataman Chepega in his message to the Black Sea military government spoke of the need to build a fortress in Ekaterinodar to protect the city.
The fortress was built with the participation of the Black Sea Cossacks, without any participation of architects. As a defensive structure, an earthen ditch, ramparts and bastions were built.
The fortress in connection with the violation of all the rules of construction quickly began to collapse. But the destruction is also associated with the careless attitude of the Cossacks, who crossed the moat in the wrong place and allowed local residents to graze cattle in the adjacent territory.
The fortress was constantly repaired. After the end of the Caucasian War, it was dismantled. But, for some time remained untouched corner bastion with a gun mounted on it, donated to the Black Sea army by Potemkin. For many years she shot, broadcasting to the residents of Ekaterinodar about the onset of half a day.
