Shukhov Water Tower

Russia, Krasnodar Territory, Krasnodar City, Rashpilevskaya Street, 147

Description:

One of the most interesting monuments of Soviet constructivism of the first third of the twentieth century are steel towers built according to the system of engineer Vladimir Shukhov. These are openwork metal structures that have high strength with a small consumption of material. The most famous Shukhov Tower is the Shabolov Tower in Moscow, which has long served as a symbol of Soviet television.

Only seven Shukhov towers remain in Russia. One of them is located in the center of Krasnodar on Rashpilevskaya Street. It is a water tower built in 1935. The design of the Krasnodar tower is similar to Shabolovskaya, only it has only one segment. The low metal structure, with a base diameter of about fourteen meters, had previously been topped by a water tank, which was later replaced by billboards.

Today, a modern shopping complex is being built around the territory on which the tower is located. According to the project, the tower will be in its courtyard, it will be restored and equipped with illumination.
