kommunarov street, 52, Krasnodar, Krasnodar Territory, Russia 350000
Description:
The Cathedral of St. Catherine is the center of the spiritual life of Kuban. Its construction has the status of an architectural monument and is one of the largest in Russia. The temple was erected in honor of the deliverance of the royal family from death during the crash of the royal train in 1888.
The majestic cathedral with seven thrones, accommodating 4 thousand people, was built of red brick and in everyday life was called “red”. In 1930, the cathedral was saved from demolition for the sake of bricks, but in 1934, due to the small number of the parish, it was turned into a warehouse, the bells were sent for melting.
In 1888, on the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia, the cathedral was restored, the bells sounded again, and in 2012 the main dome of the temple was covered with gold leaf.
