Archaeological Museum (Taman Museum Complex)

For several decades, archaeological excavations have been carried out on Taman, where famous Russian archaeologists worked: E.I. Zabelin, V.G. Tizenhausen, M.I. Rostovtsev, V.D. Blavatsky, B.A. Rybakov, N.I. Sokolsky, M.M. Kobylin, I.B. Zeest and many others. The settlement "Germonassa-Tmutarakan", located in the very center of the village on a high steep steep shore, annually gives interesting materials that allow us to talk about the history of the Taman settlement for 2600 years. The results of archaeological research are presented in the exposition of the Taman Archaeological Museum, opened in 1989. The artistic solution of the museum is made in ancient traditions according to the project of the Leningrad architect V.V. Gavrilov, which favorably exhibits unique finds made during archaeological research. The collection of Khazarian tombstones stored in the museum’s lapidarium also invariably attracts visitors.
