Temple-monument to Catherine II in Arkhangelsk

In 1819, in the western part of the regular park, according to the project of E.D. Tyurin, a small temple-monument to Catherine II, similar to an ancient portico, was built. The Empress appeared here in the form of the ancient Roman goddess of justice Themis. The statue is made according to the model of the sculptor M.I. Kozlovsky. On the wall behind the figure are the words from the poem of the great Renaissance poet Torquato Tasso “Jerusalem Liberated”: “You, whom heaven sent and was granted fate to desire justice and achieve the desired.”
