The upper terrace of the park in Arkhangelsk

The upper terrace, lying in front of the Big House from the park, in its composition resembles the Parade Courtyard, but in decoration it is closer to the palace interior. Marble herms depicting ancient gods, clear silhouettes stand out against the background of dark tree trunks. In the center of the terrace there is a sculptural group “Hercules and Antey”, a work of the master of the XVIII century, which goes back to Michelangelo. Its dynamic forms contrast with the cold statics of germs.
