The estate "Arkhangelskoe" is a unique monument of Russian artistic culture. It became famous all over the world thanks to its majestic architecture, picturesque landscapes and a unique museum collection.
For the first time the place where the estate is located is mentioned in the 30s of the XVI century. In written sources appears “the village of Upoloza on the river in Moscow”. In the middle of the XVII century, the wooden temple was dismantled, and a stone one grew in its place. Now it rises majestically on the high bank of the old bed of the Moscow River. After the next owner of the estate became one of the richest people in Russia, connoisseur and connoisseur of arts and patron of art Prince N. Yusupov, a new stage of her life began.
It is with the name of Yusupov that the heyday of the Arkhangelsk estate is associated. Under the new owner, Arkhangelsk turned into the most popular center of secular life in Moscow. Here came not only nobles, politicians, famous poets and publicists. Even the emperors were guests in the area. Now the Arkhangelsk Estate has become a unique museum with beautiful collections of paintings of the XVII - XIX centuries, as well as collections of decorative and applied art, sculpture. The collection of rare books, numbering about 16 thousand volumes, is the largest in Russia.
