Lake Vivi

Krasnoyarsk Territory, Evenki district

Description:

Lake Vivi is a freshwater lake located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and famous for its southeastern shore being the geographical center of Russia.

Lake Vivi belongs to the basin of the Yenisei River. It is located in the southwest of the Putorana Plateau. There are no permanent settlements on the banks of Vivi, with dense hardwood forests adjoining its shore.

The area of the lake is 229 square kilometers. Lake Vivi is elongated, its maximum depth varies from 80 to 200 meters. There are 133 rivers in Vivi.

Lake Vivi is of cracked origin, it is located in an area of high seismicity. Unfortunately, to this day the lake is poorly studied.

In 1992, a seven-meter monument was erected here, symbolizing the fact that Lake Vivi is the center of Russia. It was established by the scientific and sports expedition of I.D. Papanin. Also here you can see the eight-meter Orthodox cross, installed in honor of the 600th anniversary of the death of St. Sergius of Radonezh. There is also a wooden chapel consecrated in 2006.
