Monument to A. P. Chekhov

Description:

What a full, intelligent and courageous life these shores will light up with time! These words were spoken in 1890 by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, traveling through Krasnoyarsk to the island of Sakhalin. The same quote is now inscribed on the monument in honor of the writer.

Chekhov spent only one day in our city, but managed to see in such a short time both its charm and the power of the Yenisei. On this bank Krasnoyarsk, the best and most beautiful of all Siberian cities, and on that - the mountains that reminded me of the Caucasus. Do not be offended by the jealous admirers of the Volga, in my life I have never seen a river more magnificent than the Yenisei. More than a century passed, and on November 17, 1995, grateful Krasnoyarsk residents erected a monument to the famous Russian prose writer and playwright on their land.

The structure is a bronze figure of the writer and a granite stele with handwritten text. Authors: sculptor Yuri Ishkhanov and architect Areg Demirkhanov. The composition is installed on a two-tiered square named after the 350th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk, now renamed Theatre Square.

The monument was placed directly on the embankment not by chance. This is due to the fact that the stop in Krasnoyarsk was forced, and Anton Pavlovich, waiting for the crossing, admired the Siberian beauty, wandering around these places. The sculpture faces the right bank and it seems that Chekhov, as well as 100 years ago, does not cease to admire the beautiful views of nature.
