Monument to V.I. Surikov in the park near the House of Artists
Description:
In the square between the House of the Artist and the Holy Pokrovsky Cathedral (Surikov Street - Mira Avenue), there is a monument to the famous artist Vasily Ivanovich Surikov.
The monument to Vasily Ivanovich Surikov was opened on December 26, 1997, on the opening day of the III “Winter Surikov Arts Festival”, in the square between the Holy Pokrovsky Cathedral and the Artist’s House at the intersection of Mir and Surikov. The monument was made in 1960 by Moscow sculptor Ilya Kotov, and until 1975 the sculpture stood in the Yudinsky Garden on the Kache River, then was installed in front of the building of the art school on Sverdlovskaya Street. In the closed windows of the Artist’s House, facing the square, posters with illumination are placed, which depict recognizable paintings by Surikov. The place was chosen not by chance, as Vasily Ivanovich loved to visit the cathedral.
