Observation deck on the Sliznevsky cliff

pos. Sliznevo, Krasnoyarsk, Russia

Description:

The observation deck on the Sliznevsky cliff is a place beloved by Krasnoyarsk residents and tourists for the stunning beauty of the view of the Yenisei, which opens from the top of the cliff.

The observation deck is equipped on the high bank of the river near the village of Ovsyanka, the birthplace of writer Viktor Petrovich Astafiev. The height of the cliff is 300 meters. The site was created in the 70s of the twentieth century in memory of the writer-countryman and his work. In 2004, on the eve of Astafiev’s birthday, workers installed a four-meter sculpture of Yenisei sturgeon cast from metal. The weight of this giant fish is almost 300 kilograms. This symbolism was not chosen by chance: the work “The Tsar-Fish” is a landmark in the work of the writer. Man and nature, their unity and constant struggle, a reasonable approach to the use of natural resources is the main theme of Astafiev’s works.

How Astafyev himself reacted to the installation of the monument - it is unknown, most likely, with a bitter grin, they say, to the Yenisei fish and in fact it is time to put monuments - everything was transferred, crushed, but the Krasnoyarsk people loved the monument immediately. Here come the newlyweds, tying ribbons “for luck” roadside trees and hanging locks-talismans on the fence. Holding on to the mustache of the "Tsar-fish" is considered a good omen. And you can also throw a coin to the foot of the monument and make a wish to return here, so that your heart freezes again with delight at the sight of the wide Siberian expanses and the mighty Yenisei River.
