Museum-estate of V.I. Surikov
Krasnoyarsk Krai, Krasnoyarsk, Lenin Street, 98
About the company:
In 1948, to the centenary of the artist’s birth, the House-Museum of V.I. Surikov was opened. The core of the art and memorial collection were the items that after the death of A.I. Surikov was deposited by the Krasnoyarsk Museum of Local History: furniture, dishes, photographs, personal belongings of P.F. and A.I. Surikov, works of V.I. Surikov, which he gave to his mother and brother.
Later in the house-museum were transferred works of the artist, previously kept by family members P.I. Kuznetsov - patron, whose financial support allowed Surikov to go to St. Petersburg and study there at the Imperial Academy of Arts. The main source of income for the museum was the heirs of the artist. The Konchalovsky family (Surikov’s daughter Olga Vasilievna, son-in-law Petr Petrovich and grandchildren Natalia and Mikhail) took care of Surikov’s home until the last days of their lives.
Thanks to their gifts, the museum became the owner of the collection of works by V.I. Surikov, the third largest in the world. In 1978, the museum owned a wing, built in the early 1900s with the artist’s money and surrendered to tenants. Then the bath and delivery (stable with two barns) were reconstructed - thus the appearance of the Surikov estate was completely restored. After that, the house-museum received the status of the Museum-estate of V.I. Surikov. On the second floor, guests can get acquainted with the artist’s work. The largest room on the second floor was Surikov’s workshop. And going down to the first floor, the guests find themselves in the living rooms of the Surikov family, where the authentic environment is preserved, including furniture, dishes, clothes, household items.
In addition, the museum stores authentic letters and photographs of the artist, his personal belongings and belongings of his family. Here is the archive fund of the largest Soviet researcher of Surikov's work - V.S. Kemenov, including author's manuscripts, correspondence, photographs and recordings of the memories of Surikov's daughters and son-in-law about the life and work of the artist.
Today the Museum-Estate of V.I. Surikov is one of the main attractions of Krasnoyarsk, thousands of people come here every year, who want to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of the old Siberian city, imbued with the spirit of antiquity. The museum is actively developing, its employees conduct scientific, cultural and educational work, hold exhibitions, holidays, lectures, quests, intellectual games, master classes.
