Monument to I. K. Aivazovsky

ooh Makarova, embankment, Kronstadt, Russia

Description:

The first sculpture in Russia to the famous marine painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was installed on September 15, 2007 in Kronstadt. The author of the monument was the artist Vladimir Gorevoi, already known for his works.

The monument to the artist was installed in Kronstadt, since this city was of great importance for Aivazovsky. In Kronstadt, Ivan Konstantinovich created about ten paintings - not so much, but the city influenced the work of the master, brought its note to his paintings. Kronstadt was formerly home to Russia’s Baltic Fleet and was a large naval base. In this city, the theme of the fleet and the sea form one whole, and they are the main “characters” of the works of I. K. Aivazovsky. That is why the monument to the great master of painting was erected in Kronstadt, the city that made the artist’s paintings whole.

The sculpture of the great artist is located on Makarov Street, opposite the Italian pond.

It is noteworthy that at the event dedicated to the opening of the sculpture, was the great-great-granddaughter of I. K. Aivazovsky – Irina Kasatskaya. This event made the discovery even more loud and significant.
