Where to find a street with a cobblestone pavement?
Description:
Where to find a street with a cobblestone pavement?
Lazarevsky lane is 130 meters long. The only preserved street in Kronstadt with a cobblestone pavement.
Named in honor of Admiral Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev. The city authorities, in memory of the wonderful sailor and the glorious resident of Kronstadt, renamed the Church Lane, connecting Galkina (Proletarskaya) Street and Ilmyaninovaya (Manuilsky Street) in Lazarevsky Lane.
The cobblestone lane was laid out in the early XX century. The cobblestone has been preserved in its original form to this day.
Having preserved the cobblestone covering for posterity, the city administration helps people to imagine firsthand how the streets of Kronstadt looked like in ancient times.
The streets of Kronstadt for a long time were covered with cobblestone pavements, but the swampy soil did not allow them to be kept in proper order: it was necessary to periodically dig a cobblestone, sprinkle the soil and lay the stone again.
