The White Mountain has long been a place of salvation and prayer. Since the XVIII century, there were cells and hermitages, where fugitives from factories and Old Believers persecuted by the authorities were hiding.
Why is the mountain that rises in the woods called White? There are several explanations. The first snow doesn't melt here for a long time. White limestones come to the surface here. And most importantly, white is the color of purity and holiness. A mountain is like a daily examination of a white conscience.
Everyone who has visited here at least once knows this amazing feeling when vanity, adversity, sorrow, anxiety recede. It is calm and peaceful in the soul.
Kungur in Tatar means dark. In the middle of the XVII century by order of the Novgorod order were collected runaway peasants Stroganov and settled in the mouth of the river Kungurka. Fertile lands were quickly settled. But soon the city was burned by rebel Bashkirs. Born the second time in 1663, Kungur fenced off from enemies by fortress walls.
The streets of the old city remember the Pugachev riot, the ringing of the Decembrists’ shackles, the noise of fairs. Slender silhouettes of churches, merchant mansions, buildings of present places. Time seems to have stopped running in this ancient Russian city.

For thousands of years, the water dissolved gypsum and anhydrites of Ice Mountain, creating a labyrinth with majestic halls, decorating vaults and walls with an invisible incisor.
Tour guides lead visitors through amazing, different grottoes. The white lace of large ice crystals is replaced by bizarre protrusions of openwork gypsum vaults; sparkling cascades of ice - heaps of fallen blocks.

Crystals grow all winter and reach unusually large sizes, dressing the cave in a frosty ice outfit, which is equal to none of the famous caves in the world, and a living tree in the cave stands all year round.
