About the company:
One of the most “mature” theaters in Russia, the Kursk State Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin is recognized. It was founded in 1792 by the efforts of the Brasov brothers. In 1805, M.S. Shchepkin debuted on the stage, who soon became a famous artist. The theater gave "vouchers to life" to such artists as Nikolai Rybakov and Lyubov Mlotkovskaya. Here toured P. Orlenev, V. Komissarzhevskaya, K. Varlamov, V. Kachalov, A. Yablochkin.
As a result of the fire, in 1875 the building of the theater was destroyed, and restored only in 1886 with the funds collected by residents. Since 1911, the theater was named after M. S. Shchepkin. This period was marked by performances: "Romeo and Juliet", "Thunderstorm", "Dog in the hay", "Wolves and sheep".
In 1937, on the 100th anniversary of the death of A. S. Pushkin, the Kursk Theatre was named after the famous poet. Already in the 38th year, the troupe of the theater visited Moscow with a creative report, thanks to which it is recognized as the leading theater of the country. During the Great Patriotic War, the work of the theater was suspended, and the troupe worked in front-line units. The theatre returned to work in 1943. A new, improved theater building was opened in 1983.
