The Temple of the Dormition of the Mother of God and the Great Martyr Nikita
Description:
The Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God and the Great Martyr Nikita in Kursk is located at the intersection of Karl Marx and Red October streets. Previously, there was a Moscow cemetery and a small wooden chapel church. The temple was built in 1846 by the architect K.A. Ton. This is a one-headed temple with a three-tiered tent bell tower, which is connected to the main building of a small refectory. On the east side, two semicircular apses adjoin the temple. The temple is made to the traditional Russian-Byzantine style.
From the original decoration of the temple almost nothing remains. In Soviet times it was looted and partially destroyed. Preserved four-row iconostasis with the original oil painting on the stencil, which was characteristic of the early XX century.
