Red Square
Description:
Red Square is the central square of the city of Kursk, which is located in the Central District of the city. From this square, such streets as Sonina, Lenin, Dzerzhinsky and Lunacharsky begin. The streets of Uritsky and Marat pass through Red Square.
Red Square is located on the territory of the former residential street, on which the Resurrection Church and a large number of residential buildings stood. After a fire in 1781, which turned the residential quarter into a wasteland, it was decided to equip the main square of the city in this area. Moreover, this was required by the decree of Catherine II issued in 1782 on the improvement of the city of Kursk.
Red Square means beautiful. This was the city center after the defensive ditch was filled there and the remains of the fortress of the XVII century were dismantled.
