Sergiev-Kazan Cathedral

Russia, Kursk, St. Gorky, 27

Description:

Sergiev-Kazan Cathedral (full name Cathedral of Sergius of Radonezh and Icon of the Mother of God "Kazan") is an active Orthodox church in Kursk. It was built in 1778 in the Baroque style and is a pearl of temple architecture. The contractor in the construction was the father of Prokhor Moshnin, who is known to us as Seraphim of Sarov.

The temple is a slender, upward-looking two-storey building with ribbed domes, with a large number of windows and various decor details. In the thirties, the temple was closed, and it housed an anti-religious museum, which was looted during the war. In the postwar period, the temple became effective and was no longer closed.
