About the company:

The State Regional Museum of Local History in Kursk was established in 1903 at the request of Governor N.N. Gordeev. It was placed in the premises of the former bishops’ chambers – an architectural monument of the XIX century.

The exhibition hall of the museum covers an area of about 1200 square meters, and the expositions occupy the department of nature, the department of history of modern society and the department of history of the pre-revolutionary period. Interestingly covered themes of the Great Patriotic War, the Battle of Kursk.

The fund of the museum was formed from objects purchased in antique shops, gifts of individuals, exhibits from noble estates, during their nationalization. Items obtained during ethnographic and natural history expeditions also supplement the fund. The collections of the museum store more than 180,000 valuable items. These are paintings, collections of ancient beads, porcelain, objects of Kursk everyday life and ethnography - old furniture, festive clothes of peasants. Of great importance is the photo documentary fund of the museum, which is aware of the past of Kursk.

During the years of the museum, the number of visitors increased to 120 thousand people. Today the museum is engaged in research activities. Here you can listen to lectures on local lore.
