Museum of Urban Electric Transport

There is a museum in our city that the chickens are proud of. It contains a unique collection of exhibits telling about how a hundred years ago in the provincial Kursk appeared the first tram, how gradually this mode of transport has become the most popular and affordable, annually carrying millions of passengers. The museum opened in the mid-eighties. Its creators from the first days made sure that all the exhibits were available to visitors. The best rooms of the newly built Eastern Depot were given under its halls. The main collector and curator of museum exhibits Gennady Petrovich Danilenko did a great job together with Lyudmila Fedorovna Bykano-voi. In search of historical documents went to Moscow. And the funds of the regional archives studied to the last leaf. And yet they would have achieved little if they had not found support in the team, especially among veterans. People brought to the museum old photographs, personal belongings, expensive family relics associated with the past. A place of honor in the exposition took a piece of rail laid a hundred years ago. There are also Swiss watches of the beginning of the century, donated to the museum by the descendants of Vasily Vasilyevich Dombrovskiy, a man of legendary fate, encyclopedic knowledge, who did a lot for the formation of the team and the development of the tram in Kursk. Each stand is dedicated to a certain period of time. But the central place is given to people, those who wrote the history of the Kursk tram with their work. However, to say that the tram is their place of work is to say nothing. The tram is their life. And it is not even in the tram itself, but in the special atmosphere that is passed down from generation to generation. In this group, like no other, they are able to keep the memory of those who are not alive. There are wonderful traditions here. Among them are competitions by profession, when veterans act as strict examiners. They sincerely rejoice in the success of young people, worry about failure. As a rule, on the day when the exam takes place, everyone who can come to the depot without complaining about their health gathers. And the competitions become a real holiday for the whole team. In the year of the centenary, a skill contest will be held in Kursk, to which envoys from all over Russia will come. A special place is occupied by stands dedicated to the participants of the Great Patriotic War. No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten. The museum connects the past with the present, and through the contours of the present, tomorrow is already visible. Someday today will be a page of history. The current fathers and mothers working in the team will bring their children here, and then grandchildren. Meeting the past will help the heirs determine their life path. Thousands of chickens have already been here. On the eve of the centenary of the tram in the museum was reconstructed. Its funds have been significantly replenished. And you need to see how the eyes of the children are burning, which teachers bring here on excursions. They are sure that the tram in Kursk will always be. Only it will be different – comfortable, beautiful, modern, and the current one will become another exhibit of the museum.
