Description:
The museum was founded in 1929 by the decree of the Central Committee of the TNRP. The beginning of local history work in Tuva is considered to be 1925, when on the initiative of the Consulate of the USSR, the "Circle of Uryanholic Studies" was organized. Kruzhkovtsy collected information on the history of Tuva and various materials for the future museum.

For a long time, the museum did not have its own premises, and only in 1941 it was granted the building of the former theater, in which it remains to this day.

The museums of the Soviet Union rendered great assistance in the creation of the museum of the Tuvan People's Republic. The State Hermitage, the Russian Museum, the Mineralogical Museum, the Zoological Museum of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the All-Union Society for Cultural Communication with Abroad, the exhibition departments of Moscow and Leningrad and many other organizations allocated various collections for the Tuva Museum.

Currently, the museum has 6 departments and various support services.
