Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul
Lower Park, Lipetsk, Lipetsk region 398000, Russian Federation
Description:
The Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul is a magnificent architectural monument, deservedly having the status of a pearl of the city landscape. Small, but very expressive and elegant building according to the plan of its creators became a worthy decoration of the city.
The site chosen for the new chapel was formerly occupied by the wooden Church of the Nativity, which was destroyed by fire in 1806 and has not been restored. The construction of the chapel in its place began in 1872, the year of the 200th anniversary of Emperor Peter I, closely associated with the history of Lipetsk. Construction was carried out quite actively, and a few years later the chapel was consecrated. In the following years, prayer services were performed in the new church on the occasion of important events, and many citizens chose it as a favorite place of solitude.
During the Soviet era, the chapel was almost completely dismantled, and bricks were used in the construction of the power plant. Only in 1998 it was decided to restore the temple in its original forms and in its original place. Thanks to preserved documents and photographs, the architects managed to accurately recreate the appearance of the chapel. Now it pleases the eyes of residents of Lipetsk and numerous guests with its lush forms and elegant decorative decoration.
