Description:
In 1973, in the Lower Park of Lipetsk, on the site of the former office of ironworks, a monument dedicated to the birth of metallurgy in Lipetsk was erected. The history of metallurgical production in Lipetsk has more than three centuries. The decision to establish metallurgical and cannon factories in the city and its surroundings was made in 1700.
Only three years after the sovereign's decision, the first blast-holes of the Upper Lipetsk ironworks were lit. Especially for his needs, a six-meter dam was built with a length of 116 meters and a width of 18 meters. Gradually, the enterprise grew, and soon began to feel an acute shortage of hammer, drilling, weapons workshops. Construction of the Lower Plant began, and then two more. In the 1st quarter of the XVIII century Lipetsk factories could produce annually 76 thousand poods of cast iron, which is equal to 500 guns.
By the end of the XVIII century, the activity of plants began to decline, as there was not enough fuel for smelting furnaces - in previous years, the surrounding forests were almost completely cut down. In 1795, the Lipetsk Arms and Metallurgical Complex was closed, and all equipment was transported to Luhansk. In our only memorial sign reminds of the place where once there was a powerful production.
