Upper Park in the city of Lipetsk

d. Lipetsk, Lenin Street, 34

Description:

The upper park, which used to be called the Noble Park, was laid out in 1911 at the top of the rather steep bank of the Voronezh River. On both sides, the territory of the park is limited by Lenin and Saltykov-Shchedrin streets. There are many trees in the park, among which there are centuries-old oaks, lindens and maples. Until the middle of the twentieth century, part of the territory of the Upper Park was occupied by buildings consisting of one- and two-storey merchant houses. Some of them have survived to our days.

In the late 1950s, reconstruction began in the park, and it received a new name - Children's Park. In 1957, the building of the Zarya cinema was built, in which the Diocesan Administration recently moved. In 1970, a monument to Lenin appeared in the park, and the name was once again changed, and the park became known as Pioneersky.

On the 50th anniversary of the pioneer organization, in 1972, the park hosted the grand opening of the monument to young pioneer heroes, which was demolished in the 1990s during the reconstruction of the cinema. The monument to the pioneers was replaced by a monument depicting a boy and a girl with a wreath in their hands, dedicated to children who died during the war. At the same time, the park was expanded by demolition of some houses.
