Monument to Heroes-Aviators
aviators Square, Lipetsk, Lipetsk Region 398000, Russian Federation
Description:
In December 1968, a tragic event occurred in Lipetsk, which immortalized the names of two pilots of the Lipetsk aviation detachment - L.A. Krivenkov and S.M. Sherstobitov. Their plane suffered a disaster and began to fall on the city, but at the cost of their lives, the aviators were able to take the car away from residential areas. A year after this tragedy, a memorial monument was opened in honor of the heroic exploits of Lipetsk aviators.
The monument is a combat aircraft mounted on a reinforced concrete pedestal in the center of a green lawn. The car is installed in such a way that it seems that it is about to soar up... On a small inclined pedestal at the foot of the monument, a memorial plaque is installed. On the marble is carved the inscription "The monument was built in August 1969 in honor of the heroic exploits of the soldiers-pilots of the local garrison during the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars and in memory of the location of the Lenin Air Squadron in the city of Lipetsk."
In 2003, the monument underwent reconstruction - the composition was supplemented by a sculptural group depicting hero pilots, as well as two pylons with the names of other pilots engraved on them who died in the line of professional duty in peacetime. The memorial is surrounded by birches, poplars, flowers - a symbol of the continuation of many lives saved by heroic aviators.
