Lower Park, Lipetsk, Lipetsk region 398020, Russian Federation

Description:

People's Volunteers is the name of representatives of the revolutionary organization People's Will, known for its methods of political terrorism. It was formed in 1879, when there was a split in the party “Land and will” and the collapse of the terrorist group “Freedom or death”. Volunteers became famous for their bloody actions, the most famous of which was the assassination attempt on Emperor Alexander II, as a result of which the emperor died.

The monument to the people’s volunteers in Lipetsk was erected in the Lower Park in 1972, this event was timed to the 100th anniversary of their arrival in Lipetsk. It was here that the founding congress of the organization took place and that is why Lipetsk is considered the birthplace of political terrorism. The sculpture consists of several monolithic plates connected by a metal ring - a symbol of the People's Volunteers united by a single revolutionary idea. On the inner side of the ring is the inscription: "Here in June 1879 was held the Congress of the People's Volunteers".
