Plekhanov Square

plekhanov Square, Lipetsk, Lipetsk Region 398050, Russian Federation

Description:

Plekhanov Square in Lipetsk is one of the central city squares. This is a relatively new topographical unit, since the square was formed in 1972. The name was given in honor of the famous Soviet politician G.V. Plekhanov, a philosopher, the engine of Marxist ideas.

There are no unique historical sights on Plekhanov Square. Most of the buildings located on it were built already in the Soviet era. Here is the building of the House of Life, reconstructed and rebuilt as a business center, near it - the Central Department Store, as well as the House of Radio and Printing. Under the square there is an underground passage, laid in the 70s.

In 2008, a monument to the founders of the city was erected in the very center of the square. The sculpture is a metal pillar topped with the figure of a guardian angel. At the base of the pillar there are sculptures of people representing different estates of the era of Peter the First.
