Description:
Lipovka is a small river on the territory of Lipetsk, from the name of which the name of the city comes. Many old-timers prefer another name for the river - Lipets, because this is how it was called in ancient times. The length of the river is a little more than three kilometers.
In 1700, by decree of Peter I, it was determined that an iron foundry was to be built on the Lipovka River. As a result of the construction of the dam, a pond was formed, which nowadays is called Komsomolsky. Until the beginning of the XX century, Lipovka was a full-flowing river, but nowadays it has become very shallow and even dried up in places. The last time it overflowed as a result of heavy rains in the 1950s.
