Zegel Street
ooh Zegelya, Lipetsk, Lipetsk region 398000, Russian Federation
Description:
Zegel Street originally had another name - Lebedyanskaya. It was formed in the first half of the XIX century, when Lipetsk underwent a large-scale restructuring in connection with the implementation of a new master plan approved by the emperor in 1805. At that time, this street was one of the most important highways of the city, connecting the city center with the outskirts. In the XIX - early XX century, the main building was low one- and two-storey houses.
In 1921, the name of the street was changed - it was given the name of the Latvian Chekist A.V. Zegel, who worked in Lipetsk, who lived on it. The renaming took place the year after Zegel's death. He became famous for the fact that in 1917 he took part in the storming of the Winter Palace, fought in the civil war and died in 1920 during attempts to repel guerrilla attacks.
Until the middle of the twentieth century, the street was paved with cobblestones and was characterized by low buildings.
In the 1960s, active development of some sections of the street with new buildings began, and two new squares were formed at the intersection with Plekhanov and Gagarin streets.
