Maykop

Three faces of a mountain fairy tale: Michoko, Hadjoh Rock and a mountain monastery

Description:

Have you ever walked between rocks, almost touching the shoulders of walls? When overhead is a narrow strip of sky, and underfoot is a noisy, cold river?

It's the Hajoh cliff. It's not huge, it's not a kilometer. It's chambered and powerful. You feel small, but not weak. The rocks are hugging you from both sides, the water is roaring down somewhere, and suddenly it becomes so calm as if all the problems are left behind the entrance.

We walk on wooden bridges overhanging the stream. It's safe here, even if you're with kids. But the atmosphere is like a real adventure. Dark walls, cut by water, and bright glimpses of the sky from above. This place should not be seen – it should be felt.

And then Michoko. A secret place that not everyone knows about.

Michoko Gorge is wider, lighter, with turquoise water in sunlight. Here you want to stop, take off your shoes, sit on a stone and watch the water flow over the rapids. There are no crowds - there are wind, birds and the smell of wet grasses. Perfect to breathe out and slow down.

Then we go up to the mountain monastery.

St. Michael's Monastery stands on a slope. It's not just a church. It's a place of power (without pathos). Here even the air is different - calm, peaceful. You can go inside, put a candle or just stand in the yard, looking at the tops. The monastery is active, but tourists are treated kindly. Quiet, clear, careful.
