Amino gorge

Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district, Kamennomostsky settlement

Description:

The Aminovka River flows into the White River near the village of Kamennomostsky. The upper part of the bed of this small river is a picturesque gorge with many low waterfalls and unusual rocky outlets. The name of the river and gorge recalls the times of the Caucasian War. Here defended against the tsarist army Naib Shamil Mohammed Amin. His four thousand-strong Circassian army held back the Russian army for a long time.

Aminovka Gorge is less popular with tourists than the neighboring Rufbago or Mezmaysky stream, so it is usually quiet and uncrowded. In the river bed you can see five waterfalls, about ten fall from the walls of the gorge. The waterfalls of the Aminovsky gorge are characterized by a calm current. The rocks forming the walls of the gorge are made of limestone and sandstone with clay outlets, their height reaches sixty meters. Along the banks of the river you can find stones with fossilized imprints of ammonite shells.

In the upper reaches of the river you can explore the caves of Dukhan and Saxophone. Duhan Cave is the most visited - it stretches along the underground riverbed, it even has an underground waterfall. Only a small part of the cave is easy to pass. To go further, you will have to overcome a narrow hole - "skinder."
