Mount Big Thach
Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district
Description:
Talking about the magnificent mountain ranges located on the territory of Adygea, it is impossible not to mention the incredibly beautiful peak of Big Thach. The height of this mountain is almost two thousand four hundred meters. Especially striking is the southern, steep slope of the mountain. Soaring vertically up hundreds of meters, its majestic cliffs resemble the impregnable bastions of a Romanesque castle.
There are many ways to translate the name of the mountain from the Adyghe language. They call the Great Thach and the Holy Mountain and the Young God. And modern locals called the mountain Big Bald. The mountain is located on the territory of the eponymous natural park, any economic activity is prohibited here and the unique nature is preserved intact. Numerous tourist routes in the park offer climbing the mountain with a visit to the geological monument of the Devil’s Fingers and the Prince’s glade.
There is a legend that the gold of the Kuban Cossack Rada is hidden in a cave on the slope of the Big Thach. Part of the White Cossack army, accompanying the train with a precious cargo, retreated here to the sea. In order to escape from the Red Army, the Cossacks decided to hide the gold in an unknown cave, where it is still waiting for some lucky treasure hunter.
