Mount Fisht

Russia, Republic of Adygea

Description:

Mount Fisht is one of the most famous peaks of the Western Caucasus. Its powerful hromada, crowned by a glacier cap shining in the sun, has become a point of attraction for tourists from all over the world. As part of the Fisht-Oshten mountain range, Mount Fisht reaches a height of 2857 meters.

From Adyghe, the name of the mountain is translated as “White Head” or “Grey-haired”. And indeed, some see in its top the profile of a stern old man, strictly looking at those who dared to disturb his peace. And there are quite a lot of such people - climbers and cavers, climbers and just lovers of beautiful mountain nature come here.

Fisht was once a coral island towering over the waters of the prehistoric Tethys Ocean. This explains the huge number of caves and voids permeating the thickness of the mountain. Today, more than fifty cave systems are known, some of them more than five hundred meters deep. Among the most famous are the caves of the tourist Cross, Olga and the Soaring Bird. Also widely known is the glacier that covers the mountain - it is the westernmost and lowest glacier of the Caucasus.
