The Stone Sea Ridge

Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district

Description:

The Stone Sea Ridge is one of the most unusual mountain ranges of Adygea. Its quaint landscapes stretch from north to south along the eastern edge of the Lago Naki plateau. The rocks of the ridge, justifying its name, resemble sea waves frozen right in the middle of the storm.

From a geological point of view, the Stone Sea is a karst field - the entire surface of the ridge is dotted with karst funnels lying between the dolomite towers and the remains. Alpine meadows here are replaced by rocky outcrops of the most bizarre forms - this is a huge natural stone garden, beautiful in its diversity.

Gradually rising from the Lago Naki plateau on the eastern side, the ridge breaks down sharply. From its highest peak of the Nagoi Kosh rock, you can admire the beautiful mountain views, and at the burial mound located on the chip, you will certainly be told the legend of the tragic love of the princely daughter Naka and the simple shepherd Lago.
