Maykop

Canyon on the Fars River

Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district, Pobeda settlement

Description:

The headwaters of the Fars River in the Republic of Adygea are an amazing landscape monument, popular with tourists. The river here flows along a picturesque gorge between white rocky banks, forming many rapids and waterfalls.

Excursions to the canyon usually begin from the village of Victory with a tour of St. Michael’s Athos monastery. From the monastery you will go down to the valley of the Fars River, where previously there was an extensive monastery farm - gardens, vegetable gardens, pastures and apiaries. At the beginning of the canyon, a spring beats from the rock, once it was considered a monastery and was equipped.

Even on the sunniest day in the canyon is gloomy. It seems that the high, forested walls of the gorge close overhead. Their height here reaches sixty meters. In the rocks you can see the dark dips of shallow grottoes and caves. The bottom of the canyon is dotted with boulders of various shapes and sizes. Along the river bed there is an equipped trail, passing through which you will see four small waterfalls, and several interesting rocks and caves.
