Canyon of the Cice River

Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district

Description:

The Canyon of the Tice River is perhaps the most beautiful and majestic mountain gorge of Adygea, a beautiful natural monument that is almost never visited by tourists. The reason for this is the sufficient complexity of the route, which requires appropriate preparation. There are no trails in the gorge, you will have to inspect the canyon, moving directly along the riverbed. It is best to visit the gorge in late summer or autumn. When the water level in Tsitsa is minimal.

Going down to the canyon is best from the shelter of Cice or the lake Psenodah. At the beginning of the journey you will have to overcome the rubble of huge boulders. When you are in the river, you will see the first waterfalls. Then you enter the canyon itself, the granite walls of which rise several hundred meters. On the shore of the canyon you can see shallow grottoes, some of which reach truly huge sizes.

One of the most interesting sights of the gorge is a huge snowball that blocked the channel of Tsitse. This natural dam of compressed ice and snow changes shape and size every year. Sometimes it can be passed through a tunnel made in it by a river.

It is best to climb from the canyon along the Dry Beam Gorge. Since the lower part of the gorge is especially difficult to pass and at the same time less picturesque.
