Lake Psenodah
Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district
Description:
The mountain lake Psenodagh looks like a silver crescent, fallen into the emerald green of the alpine meadows in the middle of the majestic mountain peaks. Translated from Adyghe, its name means “beautiful lake”, and indeed, the beauty of this creation of nature is not easy to overestimate.
Psenodah is located in the upper reaches of the Tice River near the Fisht-Oshten Pass. This glacial-karst lake of origin is one hundred and sixty-five meters long and about sixty meters wide. The depth of the lake on average about half a meter, and only in one place reaches three meters. To swim in the lake, you need some courage - because of the ice keys that hit on its banks, even on the hottest days, the water temperature in Psenods does not exceed six degrees.
Interestingly, the water level in the lake varies greatly - the lake is part of an extensive underground water system, and karst drainage water sometimes leaves the lake, exposing the bottom.
The beauty and relative accessibility of Lake Psenodagh have made it a favorite tourist destination. However, parking near it is prohibited, which is partly for the better: the untouched beauty of the place does not threaten anything.
