Kurjips River
Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district
Description:
Among the many mountain rivers of Adygea, the beautiful Kurjips deserves special mention. It originates from numerous Oshten springs on the Lagonak Highlands and, having passed a path of one hundred kilometers, flows into the White River near the city of Maykop. Translated from Adyghe Kurjips means "Georgian river".
The riverbed of Kurjips runs along the bottom of beautiful gorges - real monuments of the victory of water over the stone. The most famous and visited tourists are the gorges of Upper Kurjips and Guam. A stormy mountain stream runs through the most picturesque canyons, whose walls reach a height of four hundred meters, then passing through numerous rapids. In the Guam Gorge, rafting is arranged along the river.
Kurjips is shallow and is not fueled by melting snow. Therefore, the water in it is slightly warmer than in other mountain rivers. The banks of the river are almost on its entire length covered with dense forests, in the upper reaches - fir, in the middle and lower reaches - deciduous. In the area of the village of Mezmay, trout is found in the river.
