River Kutanka

Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district

Description:

The small river Kutanka, which escapes from the Monk mountain range, attracts the attention of tourists with its waterfalls and a very interesting cave with the romantic name Angel Wing.

The marked trail along the riverbed begins from the Maikop-Guzeripl road, and passes along the old forested clearings, gradually rising up the mountain. After about half an hour of a leisurely walk through the picturesque forest you will see the first waterfall. The riverbed here is cluttered with huge boulders, making its way between which Kutanka forms a small two-cascade waterfall.

Just behind the waterfall, the trail goes almost vertically up. Climbing it is quite difficult, although along the trail there are railings of rope and ropes. But those who overcome this rise will be fully rewarded with a very unusual spectacle. Angel Wing is small in size, but its walls, made of sandstone, have undergone the process of so-called cellular weathering. Nature created here a real lace of stone, pierced by thousands of holes, the walls of the cave resemble either bee honeycombs or a sea sponge.

Behind the cave is another large waterfall formed by two cascades. On the clearing at the waterfall there is a place for rest.
