Nagoya Kosh Rock

Russia, Republic of Adygea

Description:

Along the southwestern edge of the plateau of Lago Naki, stretches a mountain range with a beautiful name Stone Sea. The bizarre forms of uprooted rocks rising above the fir forests and forming this mountain range really remind of the raging sea.

The highest point of the Stone Sea is the rock Naga-Kosh, which in translation from Adyghe means "Tatar camp". The height of this beautiful dolomite rock is two thousand hundred meters. Here the ridge unfolds from west to north, and from the top of the cliff offers a magnificent view of almost the entire mountain Adygea.

At the top of the rock, an ancient mound has been preserved with a menhir installed on it. There is a beautiful and sad legend about the noble girl Naki, who fell in love with the poor shepherd Lago. Fleeing from the wrath of the princess’ father, the lovers climbed the rock and, holding hands, threw themselves from its top. The prince did not dare to separate the lovers after their death and buried them on the top of Nagoi Kosh.
