Mankin Shum Falls
Russia, Republic of Adygea, Maikop district
Description:
The Sakhrai River is one of the many mountain rivers of the Republic of Adygea. This small river with a length of only thirty-one kilometers attracts many people who want to admire rocky canyons and picturesque waterfalls.
The Mankin Shum waterfall is located near the confluence point of the Brzebs stream in Sahrai, two kilometers from the village of Novoprokhladnoye.
The waterfall got its name after a funny local story. One day, after a quarrel with her husband, a woman named Maria said in her hearts that she would rather drown herself than live with him. Then she went to the waterfall, left her clothes on its shore, and went to sleep with her sister. The frightened husband, having decided that his wife had carried out her threat, raised the whole village in search.
Mankin noise is formed by two small cascades, its total height is just over two meters. Behind the waterfall Sakhrai, burly and foaming, passes through a whole series of rapids, rushing into a narrow gorge. On the right bank above the waterfall grows a century-old giant oak.
