Historical and ethnographic museum-reserve "Shushenskoe"

Description:

The Shushenskoye Museum-Reserve is a unique architectural, ethnographic complex located on 7 hectares under the open sky on the banks of the Shush River, not far from its confluence in the Yenisei.

The museum in Shushenskoye was opened in 1930. It became famous as the House-Museum of V.I. Lenin, since 1970 - the memorial museum-reserve "Siberian exile of V.I. Lenin", since 1993 - the Historical and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve "Shushenskoe".

The museum represents the historical central part of the ancient Siberian village. Economic activity, life, social life, spiritual culture of Siberian peasants at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries are represented in monuments of rural architecture, in the interiors of peasant houses and public buildings, in rich collections of tools and household peasant art.

The memorial is recreated in the houses where Lenin lived during the years of exile.

In total, 194 monuments of rural architecture are presented on the territory of the museum-reserve. These are 27 peasant houses, outbuildings (barns, baths, canopies, wells, stables, etc.), a volost board building, a volost prison (island), a public drinking establishment (kabak), a trading shop in a merchant's house. With historical accuracy, 74% of buildings were restored on site, 18.5% were transported from other places, 7.5% were built anew. At the same time, complexes of 16 peasant estates of different property status have been fully formed. The entire collection visibly recreates the architectural, spatial and social environment of the central part of the ancient Siberian village of Shushenskoye at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries.
