A.P. Chekhov Moscow Art Academic Theatre named after A.P. Chekhov
moscow, Kamergersky Per., D.3 Mmetro "Hunting Row"
About the company:
The Moscow Art Theatre opened on October 14 (26), 1898 with the premiere of A. Tolstoy’s Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich. The beginning of the Art Theatre is considered to be the meeting of its founders Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vladimir Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko at the Slavyansky Bazaar restaurant on June 19, 1897. The name of the "Art-public" theater was not long: in 1901 the word "public" was removed from the name, although the orientation to the democratic viewer remained one of the principles of the Moscow Art Theater. The core of the troupe was made up of pupils of the dramatic department of the Musical and Drama School of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, where acting skills were taught by V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko (O. Knipper, I. Moskvin, V. Meyerhold, M. Savitskaya, M. Germanov, M. Roksanov, N. Litovtsev), and participants of performances led by K. S. Stanislavsky Society of Lovers of Art and Literature (M. Lilin, M. Andreeva, V. Lutezhsky). A. Vishnevsky was invited from the province, in 1900 V. Kachalov was accepted into the troupe, in 1903 L. Leonidov.
