Wooden Modern: Kimra and Taldom
Description:
This is a trip to a cozy, as if lost in the centuries, Russian province. You are waiting for two neighboring cities - Taldom and Kimra. They were once called the “Shoespot Land”. Since ancient times, the surrounding residents made shoes in an artisanal way, which gave the name to one of the central streets of Taldom. That's where we start.
With a needle restored, well-groomed, drowning in the greenery of parks, Taldom is a city of well-preserved wonders of rich merchants and manufacturers who did not skimp on the magnificent tiled decoration of their mansions.
During a leisurely walk through the old streets of Taldom, you will admire the ancient Fire Hall, in which the district registry office is now very original. Enjoy the beauty of the golden domes flying to the sky of the unusual “tile” church of Michael the Archangel, and its elegant bell tower, admire the colorful architecture of the charming town.
Then we are waiting for Kimra - a port city on the Volga. The first time, then still the village of Kimry, is mentioned in the charter of Ivan the Terrible from 1546. By that time it was already quite a large commercial village.
Here you will see: the mansions of Rybkin and Loshakov, the house of the Society of Consumer Cooperation, Tea, and other houses, a visit to the Transfiguration Cathedral. The ancient buildings of the city can be rightly called an open-air museum.
