Moscow

From Clean Ponds to University by Tram: Intersections of Moscow Worlds

Description:

This tour is an ideal option for those who think that Moscow will not surprise you.

A warm, cozy, slightly ringing Moscow tram with a 100-year history will take us through Moscow towns, from old craft settlements and merchant Zamoskvorechye, through factory districts that grew in the era of the industrial revolution to the ancient walls of monasteries and once experimental areas that embody the idea of a new way of life in architecture.

We will travel by tram, look through its large windows on the sides, go outside at some stops and walk the most interesting places between stops. While waiting for the tram at the stops you will learn many interesting facts from the history of public transport in Moscow.

Monuments and shady boulevards will float in front of you, of course we will not be able to ignore the high-rise on the Kotelnicheska embankment and Stalin skyscrapers in principle. Next, elegant temples and cozy courtyards of Zamoskvorechye are waiting for us, you will have the opportunity to assess for yourself whether this is a “dark kingdom” as Alexander Ostrovsky described it. Through the factory buildings, tightly clad in the area of Paveletskaya, we will get to the places where once earthen ramparts and harsh walls of Danilov and Donskoy monasteries guarded the approaches to the capital. We will see a real monument of constructivism - the Khavsko-Shabolov residential complex and learn what signs and meanings this amazing architecture of the early XX century carried.

Then we will travel to the most beautiful areas of modern Moscow with a story about how the city and its inhabitants have changed, how the city is changing with us, and with the city we are changing.

For work, for life, for recreation – Moscow can be very different, this tour is a great chance not only to see these different dimensions, but also to understand how they intersect.
