INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE OR ART QUARTERS OF MOSCOW
Description:
In recent years, interest in the old industrial architecture has increased. The popularity of loft-style housing and offices came to Russia, and the city received bright public spaces that allowed to appreciate their unusual and spectacular architecture. Pre-revolutionary industrial buildings are a huge layer of historical architecture of Moscow. These are almost always unplastered brick buildings. They mixed classicism, Gothic and Romanesque motifs and elements of traditional Russian architecture.
We will visit three former industrial enterprises: the Moscow Gas Plant, now the Arma plant, Winzavod and the Manometer plant, now the Artplay design center. All three are the most valuable examples of Moscow industrial architecture. Now it is one of the most fashionable art quarters of the city. There are lofts, offices, coworkings, cafes, architectural studios and bureaus, breweries and nightclubs.
Going to the bank of the Yauza River, we will get acquainted with an interesting hydraulic structure of the 30s of the last century - a gateway for the passage of ships and a dam on Yauza, admire the classic beauty of the Stroganov dacha and a view of one of the oldest monasteries in Moscow, Spaso-Androniki, as well as unravel the origin of the popular “newbiased” vodka. At the end of our tour, we will look at the oldest preserved temples in Moscow and walk through the colorful Rogozhskaya Yamskaya settlement, which has preserved the spirit of old Moscow.
