The Great Moskvoretsky Bridge
Big Moskvoretsky Bridge, Moscow
Description:
The Great Moskvoretsky Bridge was the first pontoon bridge over the Moscow River. Components of logs lay directly on the water, the bridge was diluted as the ships walked. Then other pontoon bridges were built. However, they had to be removed due to the spring flood. By the 17th century, everyone recognized the feasibility of a permanent bridge that was independent of weather conditions.
The old Moskvoretsky Bridge was smaller than the current one and was located parallel to Pyatnitskaya and Moskvoretskaya Street. Therefore, Balchug is now the shortest street in Moscow, it used to be a crowded place with a market. Many merchants lived on Friday and Ordynka.
The New Moskvoretsky Bridge was founded in 1938 along with the Big Stone and other bridges across the Moscow River.
You can get to the bridge by metro from the Tretyakovskaya, Novokuznetskaya and China City stations.
