The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow”
Description:
The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” is a church in the center of Moscow, located on Bolshaya Ordynka Street.
On the site of a modern temple in the XV-XVI centuries stood a wooden church, which was later replaced by a stone temple in 1683-1685. In 1688, the glorification of the miraculous icon of the Virgin “Joy of All Who Sorrow” took place in the church, from where the church got its name.
The temple was completely rebuilt in 1834-1836 according to the project of the architect O.I. Bove, who built the temple in the Empire style. The funds were allocated by merchants Kamanin and Debts.
In 1922, the utensils and decorations of the temple were seized, and in 1933 the temple was closed. During the Great Patriotic War there were stores of the Tretyakov Gallery. In 1948, the temple was reopened for worship.
